We are a Collaborative...

Made up of education leaders, business and industry leaders, community organizations and higher education institutions, we are striving to find connections for students and their future.  This group of enthusiastic volunteers come primarily from Richland and Crawford County, Ohio and represent our public schools; economic development groups like RCDG, RMC, and Crawford 20-20; and multiple large and small industries in these counties. Funding comes through donation, state funding and education buy-in.

SPARC

The primary focus of this group is to provide career coaches in our area schools in grades 6-12. Our goal is to have a career coach in all of our schools covering this grade span, 6-12, and get students and teachers out into industry to see the potential for jobs in our region. Coaches work with students utilizing OhioMeansJobs and other tools to help them make informed decisions regarding the required education for their future goals. We also work with Crawford County Job and Family Services to provide mentors in the Crawford County Schools.

Talent Development

This diverse group is made up of HR personnel from local industry, SPARC committee members, financial institutions, NCSC college partners, community organizations and more, This group is tasked with developing talent specifically in Richland County and partnering with Crawford County. Meetings are held at North Central State College, an active partner, once a month to become a clearinghouse of all action, educational opportunities and training for regional students and young adults.

Our History
SPARC has been faithfully maintained by education and business leaders who care about students' futures as well as the future of our region of Ohio for over 10 years. SPARC has always had a focus on career counseling and was formerly involved with UCAN. SPARC had its roots in the P-16 Council but the focus has shifted away from the great work they were doing with pre-school to focus on grades 6-12.
The Talent Development Committee was formed in 2015 to bring together groups working toward the same goals of developing talent in our region. NCSC, RCDG, the RMC, Directions CU, Spherion, Gorman Rupp, and many others are invested in moving this work forward. The Talent Development group actually includes focus beyond K-12 and looks at the unemployed and the "often" employed to help develop strategies for creating a great workforce. They usually meet the last Friday of each month at Fallerius Hall on North Central State College's campus to keep communication flowing.
